challenge residential weekend
The second residential takes place approximately 6 months into the year-long Wellbeing Challenge Programme.
It provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on how they have progressed since the start of the course. It also provides an opportunity to take on new and more challenging challenges!
There are two new resilience themes on this weekend: Assertiveness and Negotiation.
Assertiveness
Learning to communicate assertively, rather than aggressively or passively, can avoid conflict and help people to get on better together.
Negotiation
Negotiation is all about learning to see things from the other person's point of view and to compromise and meet in the middle.

Confidence challenges
By this stage of the programme we will know the participants very well so we can work with them to decide on individual challenges to help them build confidence.
For example, this might be leading an activity like the night line or organising meal times to build confidence in giving instructions, reading the bed time story to build confidence in literacy skills or doing the wake-up call to practise time-management skills.

family group challenges
There are three challenges for groups to work on together. These are:
- Survival challenges including building a shelter, finding edible plants and lighting a fire.
- A homing exercise when the group have to use map reading skills to find their way back to base.
- A creative map making activity
outdoor challenges
Outdoor challenges are again adapted to individual capabilities but our aim is to provide something to take people outside their comfort zone and give them more opportunities to practise their resilience skills.
