Wise Steps
The Wise Steps programme came to an end in December 2022. We have enjoyed our time working with Wise Steps and meeting all the coaches and course participants and making our contribution to the overall programme.
Wise Steps helps people in Tyne and Wear to transform their lives, with funding from the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund. The project provides one to one specialist support to those on the pathway to work. Wise Steps is a partnership of local organisations led by the Wise Group which aims to improve wellbeing and life chances.

wellbeing challenge for wise steps course
The aim of the Wellbeing Challenge for Wise Steps course is to enable participants to develop resilience skills, improve their wellbeing and to have an opportunity to try out activities that are available in their local communities.
How we work
We will be running a 5 session course for groups of WISE STEPS participants. The maximum group size is ten participants. Each session will be approximately 4 hours and will include a practical activity of some sort.
What we do
The course begins with learning about resilience skills and participants have an opportunity to put these skills into practice while taking part in challenging outdoor activities (for example, climbing, canoeing, or archery).
The second part of the course is framed around the 5 Ways to Wellbeing (Give, Take Notice, Be Active, Connect, Keep Learning). Sessions will include practical group activities, for example, outdoor volunteering and photography, which link to the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. Participants will also be encouraged to take on their own individual challenges based on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing.
Where we work
We are based in South Tyneside but not in a single location. The location of each session will depend on the activity and might include adult education centres, community associations, leisure centres, outdoor activity bases, libraries and museums. We consider it part of the course that our participants gain experience of visiting a wide range of venues.
Who we work with
Course participants are referred by Wise Steps coaches. The course is suitable for participants with any level of fitness and where necessary we can adapt the activities to suit.
